What is Holistic Nutrition?
Functional medicine treats the whole individual, taking into account how bodily systems are communicating with one another. A comprehensive and holistic approach to treating these interconnected systems can transform a person’s health -physically, emotionally, and spiritually. As a health coach or health and wellness advisor, I provide support in helping to implement the recommended changes made either by a functional medicine doctor or even a traditional one. I provide accountability and a safe place to explore what these changes mean for a client’s daily life, which is incredibly helpful on their healing journey.
How does it relate to Healing?
When one embarks upon discovering our own healing journey there are many surprises. However, if for once, we start thinking of our selves as not only functional, but also integrative, we would be pleased to find that as integrative individuals, there is also more to the self than the body and its physicality. Personally, I work with clients to make them feel better about themselves, about their health, and their healing journey, through personalized lifestyle changes that meet unique dietary, emotional, and physical goals and needs. The people who hire me learn how to thrive by themselves by fuelling their bodies, living a healthy lifestyle, and finding the best wellness and health routines that work for them. Thus, an integrated individual seeks balance while experiencing the betterment of their health. This aspect of the integrative self requires the realization that by working simultaneously on body, mind, and soul, we attain healing which ultimately equals health.
Taking control of your health is an empowering endeavor, and it all starts with seeking the answers and opening yourself up to improving your health holistically.
It’s rare for anyone to get an hour to explore their wellness goals with a trained professional. As an Integrative Nutrition [IIN] Health Coach, I create a supportive environment that enables you to articulate and achieve your goals. Throughout my education, I have been exposed to the most cutting-edge dietary theories and studied highly effective coaching techniques to help you find the right lifestyle that works best for you.
Most approaches to healthy eating dwell on calories, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Instead of creating lists of restrictions and good and bad foods, I coach my clients to explore basic improvements and implement gradual changes during our work together. As these pieces accumulate, my clients find these changes collectively creating a much larger impact than they originally anticipated. We work on what they want to improve within the circumstances of their unique situation.
And just like Aristotle said: “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”; thus, “Fixing the body symptoms without finding the root cause and/or without healing the soul, is no real health improvement at all.”
