Facts, I can give you the facts!

Undoubtedly, I could haul all the recent research on this field and fill up an entire library, just to say it modestly, without bragging, because so many studies have been devoted to the relationship that they keep. This is like an oscillating pendulum whose ratio seems unmeasurable and that has likely inhabited the world since time immemorial.

I won’t discourage you from conducting your own research, share your results, or give a lecture about this. Yet, I’d like you to read a bit of a story on these two characters we all probably know…

“He couldn’t be eloquent enough without her.

She couldn’t make sense of anything in a world just of her own.

He would have been a place to reflect, gain strength and relax.

She, on the contrary, was always prone to be resistant, a rebel of sorts.

She would not succumb to his arms or his desire.

He had sworn by the moon to be showing up every night, diligently, like a knight.

She might have not taken him seriously from the beginning.

His dedication was somewhat inconstant: on occasions, he’d flee out the window.

Inadvertently, she had been secretly waiting for him like a bride.

On the one hand he was loyal and a remanse, 

but on the other hand, his continuous absence gave her more doubts than certainties.

Silence and solitude could have gotten better along than these two.

One cannot exist without the other… that, in fact, is sad but true!”

This impossible couple was cursed, corrupted, condemned to be like star-crossed lovers whose inevitable fate was to chase, to pursue, to hunt each other, to long await for the other to make an appearance, leaving a subtle imprint of each other’s presence in their memories, for their own shadows and as reflection of their souls…

Both Sleep & Insomnia somewhat epitomize a tragic couple: they might never be able to be together, but in dreams…

*I have written this more in a whimsical than in a serious or formal way, trying to devise and unravel the intricacies of this realm of dreams where, honestly, I have been an eager participant, yet the reality is that the world before 2020 might have seen me sleeping my fair share of hours (sometimes even in excess) every night, yet this year, it’s a different story, and the more I entertain it, the more I lullaby it, the less I try to understand it -regardless all that brilliant research-, and sometimes, I confess that I am just an observer, I just let my insomnia be…
